THE VISION

The Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize (MOP CAP) is a worldwide search for the next generation of contemporary Iranian artists who have the potential to make a significant impact in their field. The goal of the prize is to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to gain international exposure, and to engage in an artistic experimentation and cultural exchange. Through its archival material, including an online artist database and printed publications, MOP CAP aims to provide an educational interchange and contribute to the development of Iranian art and culture.

THE PROCESS

MOP CAP is open to young, emerging Iranian visual artists, living in and outside of Iran.

Stage 1: The applications are accepted online only.

Stage 2: The MOP CAP Shortlist Exhibition to be held in Tehran.

Stage 3:  An exhibition of the Finalists' work is held in London.

THE PRIZE

The Winner of MOP CAP receives a one-year fellowship that includes a mentorship with a curator working towards a solo exhibition at a leading exhibition space in London; as well as a three-month residency at the Delfina Foundation.

Nicky Nodjoumi: From Tehran to New York

Different Perspectives on Modern and Contemporary Iranian Art

Iranian artist Nicky Nodjoumi is represented in the British Museum collection through several works including the recently acquired "The Accident". At this special event Nodjoumi talked about this magnificent work in the context of his artistic practice and took the audience through a biographical journey. This was followed by a conversation between the artist and Hamid Dabashi, Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, New York in which they explored Nicky Nodjoumi’s practice within a historical context. The afternoon was introduced and chaired by British Museum curator Venetia Porter with concluding remarks by Vali Mahlouji.
